various members from the hackerspace in Gent post here, you can be one of them, if you want to!
a hackerspace in Gent
On the first of October Gent M is organizing the iMarket, a market showing the digital creativity in our city. Since that is the perfect chance to show the general public, that there is a hackerspace in our wonderful city, we decided to be part of it.
Please onsider this an open invitation to get to know the friendly hackers from your neighbourhood. Place to be is the Korenmarkt in two weeks from now. Come over and say hi!Contrary to the Whitespace mantra: “Unfinished Projects!” sometimes projects do get finished. An example of such project is the Pidato experiment. The aim was to add vibrato capabilities to digital pianos as seen in following video:
The project was mentioned, together with Hackerspace Ghent, on hackaday.com. For the technical details see this blog post.
Let’s hope this is the start of some more exposure of Whitespace and Whitespace projects…
Wow, newline is over and I am still blown away. A huge thank you goes out to all our speakers, workshop organizers, arch angels, angels, our landlady and the decoders for lending the extra rooms to us and of course to all of you, that showed up. If you also liked it, please let us know. Share your photos with us and keep an eye on this blog and the wiki, we will post the videos of the talks soon. Any feedback from you is more than welcome. Blog about us, tweet about us! Join us!
We are not going to stop here, this is just the beginning! Year number 2 has just begun and we will make sure it will be even better than the first one. There seems to be some confusion about newline on the interwebs, it seems that some of you think, it is this weekend. That is not true.
Newline is next weekend on the 25th and 26th of March 2011. We all understand that with the given schedule, you all want to see it happen rather sooner than later, but you really have to wait one more week.To make the waiting time a bit shorter, use the coupon attached to this post. See you all next week!A lot of our attention goes into newline right now. Newline is the one year celebration of our hackerspace, but it is not the only thing going on. Whitespace is a permanent space, where you can exchange ideas, meet like-mindend people and learn something new:
I want to bring your attention to "fabulous functional fun", an introduction into functional programming given by Joost, one of our newest members. Sounds fun right? If you are interested, please register on the wiki. Happy hacking!Yes, newline is almost here and it becomes more and more clear that it will be the best event since sliced bread^w^w stoofvlees sauce.
If you have not seen it on the mailing list or twitters, please check the latest updates of the schedule. There are already quite a few teasers of the talks and there will be more to come. If you are coming from further away, please take a look at the accommodation page and if you have any questions, please let us know at newline [at] 0x20 [dot] be. Happy Hacking!
Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.
The call for participation for our super-event Newline is still open, so if you have a cool idea for a talk a workshop or a fun event during the weekend of #newline, please contact us on newline [at] 0x20 [dot] be.
If you want to come over, but don't know where to sleep, please contact us as well, we will be able to arrange something. We also would like to ask all of you, to register over on eventbrite, if you are planning to come. There is no need to put your real name there or even print out a ticket, we just want to get a feeling for the amount of people that will show up. If you do not like to register over there, but still want to come over, please do so, we respect your privacy! Happy hacking!
